Today I visited Des Kohan for the checkyoudaily.com launch event and am now coveting Gabriela Artigas jewelry. These beautiful necklaces caught my eye when I entered the chic Los Angeles boutique and I can't stop thinking about them!! There are double braided styles (as pictured above) and more elaborate one-of-a-kind styles (as pictured below). GORGEOUS!!!!!
And now on my wish list.
If you haven't visited Des Kohan, you really MUST. The boutique carries an amazingly chic selection of exclusive, under the radar collections including Hussein Chalayan, Juan Carlos Obando, Helmut Lang, Azature and Azzedine Alaia.
It's unusual and slightly disturbing, but it has found it's way into the avant garde.
Hair - human and otherwise - is a unique detail on designer collections for Fall.
Ok - I'm loving it!!!
Maison Martin Margiela kicked off the trend with his Spring collection and the effect has caught on. I spotted the look on the runways and in several recent editorials. Pictured above Mastina and Peterkops incorporated wigs into their recent runway presentation in Barcelona. And from Paris to Moscow, there were plenty of looks on the runway from all over the world.

When I see a pair of boots like this, the palpitations begin in my heart and my wallet tries to hide in the bottom of my purse. It's the kind of right-on accessory that captures an insanely decadent and dramatic spin on the season. I'm loving Ricardo Tisci's touch chic take on the 30s and 40s for Givenchy's Fall 09 collection. The feathery, furry, flourishes are fieeeerrrrce!!! It's for them to hit the stores already!!
Here are a few of my favorite pieces, to see more go to coutorture.com
It's a great online place to get your 80s street-wise bling on - and then some.
I'm loving the artful photos with black and white backgrounds. Oh, and there's plenty of great fashion finds - colorful all-over and ethnic prints, vintage bags and jewelry. Choose from designers including Jeremy Scott, Chanel, Christian Dior, Adidas, Costume Dept, and the list goes on........!!!!!
My mind is on vintage after attending The Way We Wore's "Out of the Ordinary" Earth Day event. (See my coverage on apparelnews.net and stay tuned for more photos here soon!) With all that talk on vintage, I took another look at the hippie chic hipster style at Coachella as featured on Style.com. It's a great place to see how to wear, re-mix and customize your own look. Here are a few of my favorite shots including the self-made fringe dress, Cordani sandals and vintage sunglasses and accessories pictured above.
Those are just some of the messages of Earth Day. And we can all start by re-thinking our wardrobes. I spotted this sign and window display at Crossroads on Santa Monica Blvd. The window advertised the store as "The Future of Fashion." And it's a good message on how to not only be environmentally friendly, but also on how the past can be reworked into the future. And in this economic crisis, it's helpful to know you can be chic without having to buy a completely new wardrobe. I'm planning to do some Spring cleaning in the next few weeks and here are some suggestions on some of my favorite haunts on where to go to resell or buy vintage clothing in Los Angeles.
"The idea of making something grand out of nothing special/rubbishy things....It was a meditation on using waste and unloved material to hopefully create something unexpected, something a little beautiful."
- Michelle Jank
Earth day is fast approaching and Australia Fashion Week is just around the corner.
I thought it was apropo to post this shoot styled with plastic bags for ponystep.
Not to mention, the photos are just plain amazing!!!
It's time to rethink our priorities and the endless fashion possibilities.
This shoot proves we can all conjure up new thoughts on how to recycle and utilize familiar objects.
Who said the garbage bag was out of fashion??!!!!
“I was inspired by the GFC [global financial crisis],” explains photographer Scala. “The thought that this year, with a lack of money, people will be forced to recycle and reuse. Be it their old clothing or what ever they find laying around. In this case we used black plastics mixed with fashion pieces."
When I first watched "Grey Gardens" I fell in love with Little Edie's inventive headwear.
And now that the motion picture starring Drew Barrymore has been released, you can bet that trendy fashionistas everywhere will be wearing the look. And it's interesting how trends seem to evolve at the same time. I noticed an abundance of vintage head pieces, scarves and turbans all over the Fall runways. From Marc Jacbos to Alexander McQueen - here are a few of my favorites.
If you're looking for the perfect update to your wardrobe, the Meadham Kirchhoff Spring/Summer 09 collection is it. I'm loving this striking collection that offers all the right styles with a sexy, yet chic edge. The London-based designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff turned out hard core pieces that balance a rock n' roll edge with romanticism. And some of the most innovative denim I've seen recently. Frayed denim jeans, lace shirts, chic blazers and lace-up skinny pants are avant garde and yet so wearable. It's couture meets the street.
I'm on an Opening Ceremony tangent and just came across these smokin' shredded Meadham Kirchhoff jeans. Most styles that I've seen are faded and have a vintage flavor, but these are made from a stiff blue denim. It's that perfect twist that adds an amazingly chic edge.
