L by Jennifer Love Hewitt is the latest celebrity design collaboration to pop up on the clothing scene. Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt celebrated the launch of her new maternity collection for A Pea In The Pod yesterday at the brand's Beverly Hills boutique. The store was jam packed with guests and Hewitt's fans were lined up outside hoping for an opportunity to meet "The Client List" star. The "Picnic" themed event included light bites, popcorn, candy and tasty maternity-appropriate mocktails suitable for the occasion. Hewitt, who recently married boyfriend Brian Hallisay and gave birth to their daughter Autumn, was dressed in an appropriately chic black dress and looked every bit the glamorous Hollywood Mom. It's not surprising the event drew more than a few pregnant Hollywood celebs including former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson and "The Office" star Jenna Fischer. I had the opportunity to chat with Hewitt about the collaboration which was appropriately California casual chic down to the comfortable jersey fabrics, ethnic print maxi dresses, hoodies and jeans. Here is what the actress turned designer had to say about the collection.
What inspired you to create the collection?
It's my baby, no pun intended. I absolutely loved doing it - it was a great collaboration. It was a wonderful place to put my energy while I was pregnant. It's really just about making women feel beautiful and comfortable and safe and ready to do what they're going to do. The thing that's really different about this line is that it's really meant for as early in the pregnancy as you want until eight months after you have the baby. So, the longevity of it I think is really special. It's great, it makes you feel comfortable, it's beautiful, it's soft and we're really excited about it.
What are some of the key pieces?
We have a great maxi dress, which I love. And we have a great little yoga hoodie/swing jacket that's great with the leggings. We have a blue dress that's super soft that is great during the day with flip flops and a hoodie and at night you can throw on with little booties, a leather jacket and a necklace and it looks great for going out - sort of ruche it up on the sides. The collection's also meant to do that. It's meant to not have you change eight times during the day to find something you feel good in. You can get up in the morning, put on something and with a couple little added pieces during the day, really wear it all day.
What was the design inspiration?
Classic pieces that get you through. But we did a hint of a really beautiful blue that I felt would be a perfect blue on anyone's skin tone that I'm really pleased with. And then [there are] pink and gray and black - really soft colors.
So California chic?
Yes, it's lifetyle..
Were there any designers that you looked to or were inspired by?
No, I just went by what I was feeling comfortable in at the moment. I was really struck by - we're at an odd time in our society where I feel like women aren't rooting for each other as much as they should be, we're not supporting each other as much. I thought well, 'I'm having this baby, what a beautiful energy to put all of my energy into - wanting women to feel good about themselves and wanting them to feel beautiful and wanting to hold them up.' That's really what it was about.
One last quesion....What is VeryVeryChic to you?
VeryVeryChic to me is a great black blazer.
And black in general?
Yes.
(Clearly, we have a lot in common!)
